[link]It's not a good thing when your characters essentially look like the same person just cosplaying others, y'know? When you have only a few different ways of drawing a face shape, eyes, nose, etc, it's not good ._.
It can be pretty hard to break the habit, expanding your style though. I think I used to struggle with it too myself :\ Though nowadays I like to think I've gotten better '_';; I try pretty hard to draw people with their own unique face.
Anyway, I've seen a LOT of artists, lot of popular ones, who suffer from this and it disappoints me, especially when they've got talent D8 Most of the perpetrators tend to be anime artists, though I've definitely seen anime styles where this isn't the case. Also "same face syndrome" can actually work for certain styles, especially if it's intentional.. Just, I dunno. I think it'll be better for your art in the long run if you're able to make your characters distinguished without having to rely on exaggerated features and stock templates for faces.
Hm. I don't really know why I wrote this. I don't know.
It's not, uh, coherent. I just wanted to write a journal because I have a lot of homework to do and I figured writing something would help me warm up a bit.
I always thought that about disney princesses .v.

This happens a lot elsewhere too, like in many mangas, for instance. Instead of using face shapes and other features to distinguish characters, people tend to use flashy hairdos or outfits.

Though I do think I have a problem with not being able to make men look like men. And I think that this is a problem that a lot of artist, who work in the more anime/manga style have. They all draw girly men! I've tried many times to get away from this problem, but I've found it quite difficult
;_;. Some of the things I have the hardest time with are: Facial hair. (I just can't seem to get it right... D: No matter how hard I try.) And giving men a non feminine figure. I find that a -lot- of people have that particular problem. Giving men wide hips, thing waist etc.
It's managed to work for me just because of they style I have and the type of characters I usually end up drawing... But I would really love to be able to have a little bit of variety in my style and be able to draw and have the more masculine characters, which would greatly improve my story writing, as well. I think.
although all that, maybe my characters look the same to other people, i just conciously try to give them all different features and if I don't draw them with the right shapes then it doesn't look like them to me!
Otherways, amen to that!
Especially the part about disappointment :/
And that's why I made my characters look so, that if someone draws them, they certainly can't follow their same face template. UuU
Your characters are hard to draw, man.
